Camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, and photography equal adventure! The outdoors has always been an important part of my life and I try to reflect that in my work. The subjects are of places  where I have traveled or what I've seen in nature. My process of painting has always started with multiple photos of the subject. I do so in order to get the accuracy in the composition that I'm looking for, without duplicating an individual photo. Sometimes it's just a matter of referencing a color or the reflections of sunlight on a stream in the early morning. As a self-taught artist, learning as much as possible about the subject has always been important to me. The hours gathering information far exceed the hours spent in the studio. Whether it's Alaska, Montana, Colorado, or our own forty acres in Oklahoma it's time well spent researching for the next painting. For me, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, and photography also equal art!
